Contractual teachers demand permanent status

Birgunj, Nepal, Aug 24 (ANI): Contractual teachers in Nepal’s Parsa district have resorted to protests against a new law that makes it mandatory for them to appear for an exam before they are made permanent. An amendment was added to the Nepal Constitution, which states that temporary teachers have to appear for an exam to be made permanent. If they fail or don’t appear for it, they would not be allowed to continue in their jobs. Reacting to this, those affected by the amendment have launched protests against the decision and demanded that they be made permanent. Around 20,000 temporary teachers have joined hands to protest against the law. They have sought its revocation and called it unfair as there are teachers who have served for over 30 years and still not been made permanent.
